Who is Art Therapy for?

* Verbal communication is a uniquely human trait and is very valuable in expressing feelings, desires and intent.  Art is an ever present part of the journey towards expression of one’s feelings and a step toward total awareness.  Doodling, sketching or concerted effort all reflect the inner being’s style.

Art Therapy can benefit everyone, or anyone.  Any individual who seeks to enhance their life, achieve personal wellness or learn a non-verbal means of communication skill would benefit from Art Therapy.  People of all ages and walks of life find that Art Therapy can be beneficial in numerous facets of life.

Art Therapists work with children, adolescents, adults and provide services to individuals, couples, groups and families. Corporations, companies, communities and institutions also find Art Therapy beneficial to their personnel.

Families in crisis are encouraged to engage in Art Therapy to assist in release of the feelings and depression that can at times become overwhelming, especially to a child.

Elderly clients often find that art therapy helps increase memory capacity.  It is also recommended for self-esteem and recovery from chronic illness issues. Visual/Spatial brainpower, which facilitates and interprets images and drawings, is one form of expression.

Art Reach is the term I use to describe the environment I have created and method of healing that is promoted by Art Therapy in my practice.  Through guided experiences, using a variety of art materials and trusting in the wisdom of one’s hands I am able to lead clients in a process of integration and resolution of conflict, enrichment of their inner life, and allow the healing of their spirit which opens up an awareness of the capacity for inner growth.  Sessions are designed for people who want to explore their creative and expressive potential and for professionals who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the art therapy process.   No previous art training is necessary for the client.  Art media such as clay, paint and mask making can be powerful tools in reaching the innermost thoughts and feelings of the individual.

I work in both private practice and with mental health facilities.  I have served as a consultant with physicians, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, hospitals and schools.  My clients have included children who were victims of violent crime; families dealing with divorce or loss of a parent, multiple personality disorders, and helping terminally ill patients face their final days with peace.  Art Therapy is not limited to individuals in crisis; however, I have also worked with individuals whom are interested in understanding themselves and in expanding their potential through the creative process.  As an Art Therapist, I diagnose, assess and determine the treatment on an objective basis for all of my clients.
